Award Description
POSCO Academic
Achievement Award 		This award is granted to members who have made significant contributions to the advancement of metallurgy and materials engineering through years of publishing exemplary papers or by authoring influential books.

Prize: 30,000,000 KRW
POSCO Kim Chol Woo Award This award is granted to members under the age of 45 who have made outstanding academic or technical contributions in the field of steel. The award alternates each year between the academic and technical fields.

Prize: 5,000,000 KRW
LS Academic
Achievement Award		 This award is funded by LS MnM and is granted to members who have made exceptional academic achievements in the field of metallurgy and materials engineering, and who have contributed significantly to related industries.

Prize: 10,000,000 KRW and gold worth 3,000,000 KRW
AMO Engineering Award This award is funded by AMO Group (Chairman Kim, Pyung Kyu) and is granted to members who have made significant contributions to the technological development of high-performance functional materials.

Prize: 10,000,000 KRW
Outstanding Contribution Award This award is given to members who have made significant contributions to the academic or industrial development of metallurgy and materials. It is awarded to regular members or representatives of special member companies who have been part of the society for more than 10 years.

Prize: 2,000,000 KRW
Technical Achievement Award This award is given to members who have led the development or advancement of new technologies in metallurgy and materials.

Prize: 2,000,000 KRW
Young SYoung Scholar Award This award is given to members under the age of 40 who have published excellent papers over several years and made significant academic contributions. Eligible candidates are those who have conducted their research in Korea and have resided in the country for at least one year.

Prize: 1,000,000 KRW
Young Innovator Award This award is given to members under the age of 40 who have made significant contributions to the development or improvement of new technologies in metallurgy and materials. The award is based on research conducted in Korea, and members who have resided in Korea for at least one year are eligible.

Prize: 1,000,000 KRW
Outstanding Paper Award This award is given for papers published in the "Journal of the Korean Institute of Metals and Materials," "METALS AND MATERIALS International (MMI)," and "Electronic Materials Letters (EML)" over the past two years. It is divided into two sections:

Section 1: Awarded to the author of the most academically outstanding paper.
Section 2: Awarded to the authors whose papers have been cited the most in other SCI journals in the past two years (1st, 2nd, and 3rd places).

Good Reviewer Award This award is granted to reviewers who have conducted the highest number of manuscript reviews for "Journal of the Korean Institute of Metals and Materials," "METALS AND MATERIALS International (MMI)," and "Electronic Materials Letters (EML)" within the past two years. Recipients are recognized for their clear, high-quality evaluations that significantly contribute to enhancing the academic rigor of the journals.

Materials Science as Art Award This award is granted to individuals or teams who submit aesthetically compelling and artistic photographs or images related to materials science and engineering. This award recognizes creative works that blend scientific insight with artistic expression, aiming to spark curiosity and interest in the field.

Encouragement Award 300,000 KRW
International Scholar Award This award promotes young member activities and strengthens collaboration between TMS and KIM. This collaborative exchange program offers selected young members the opportunity to present papers at international sessions. The KIM-selected awardee will be awarded at the TMS Annual Meeting (typically in March), and the TMS-selected awardee will be awarded at the KIM Fall Conference (typically in October). 

Award Timing: Selected at each KIM spring conference and presented at the following year's TMS spring conference.

Prize: 5,000,000 KRW (for airfare, transportation, accommodation, and meals).
Dedicated Contribution Award This award is conferred upon individuals is given to individuals recognized for their exceptional contributions to the advancement of the society.

Award Description
Hyunsong Engineering Award This award is conferred by the HyunSong Education and Culture Foundation, established by the late Mr. HyunSong Joo Chang-gyun (1921.11.7–2012.12.29), the founder of Dongbu Steel (formerly Ilsin Steel). It is awarded to individuals who have made outstanding research achievements in the fields of steel and materials engineering and have made significant contributions to related industries. The award is recommended by the Korean Institute of Metals and Materials and presented in the name of the Chairman of the HyunSong Education and Culture Foundation.

Prize: 20,000,000 KRW

Award		 This is the highest honor conferred by the Korean Institute of Metals and Materials (KIM), awarded to individuals who have made significant contributions to metallurgy, materials science, industry, and technology in Korea.

Prize: Gold medal [30 don of gold]
Hyundai Steel Academic Achievement Award This award is granted to members who have made outstanding academic achievements in the field of metallurgy and metal processing, such as publishing excellent papers or writing influential books.

Prize: 30,000,000 KRW
Hyundai Steel Young Researcher Award This award is granted to members under the age of 45 who have made outstanding academic or technical contributions in the field of metallurgy and metal processing.

Prize: 5,000,000 KRW
Advanced Materials Science Award This award is granted to members who have made exceptional contributions in leading material research in emerging industries such as electronic materials, energy materials, and bio-materials.

Prize: 5,000,000 KRW
Yoon Dong Seok Award This award is funded by a donation from the late Yoon Dong-seok, former president of the society, and is given to members who have made outstanding academic or technical contributions in the field of metallurgy and materials. Yoon Dong Seok served as the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th President of the Korean Institute of Metals and Materials (from 1962 to 1966) and played a pivotal role in the development of the Society.

Prize: 2,000,000 KRW
Chungwoong Award This award is funded by a donation from the late Kim Soo-young, former president of the society, and is given to members who have made outstanding academic or technical contributions in the field of metallurgy and materials. Kim Soo-young served as the 15th president (1978-1979) and greatly contributed to the society's development.

Prize: 2,000,000 KRW
Seojong Award This award is funded by a donation from the late Park Pyeong-ju, former president of the society, and is given to members who have made outstanding technological development achievements in the field of metallurgy and materials while working in a research institute or company. Park Pyeong-ju was the 9th and 10th president (1966-1970) and made significant contributions to the society’s growth.

Prize: 2,000,000 KRW
Chuljae Award This award is funded by a donation from the late Yang Hoon-young, former president of the society, and is given to members who have made outstanding academic or technical contributions in the steel industry. The award alternates between the academic and technical fields each year. Yang Hoon-young served as the 11th and 12th president (1970-1974) and contributed greatly to the development of the society.

Prize: 2,000,000 KRW
Choi Ho Young Award This award is named in honor of the late Choi Ho-young, the 2nd president of the society (1951-1953), and is given to members who have made significant contributions to the development of research and technology in the field of electronic and information materials. (The award was originally given as the "Electronics & Information Materials Award" from the 1st to the 19th iteration).

Prize: 2,000,000 KRW
Kim Yong Jin Award This award is named in honor of the late Kim Yong-jin, the first and third president of the society (1st: 1946-1951, 3rd: 1953-1958), and is given to members who have made significant contributions to research and technology development in the field of future materials.

MMI-SPRINGER Award/EML-SPRINGER Award Established in 2013, these awards are granted to the 4th, 5th, and 6th most cited individuals in the past two years at the annual fall conference.
Awarding time: Annually at the General Meeting held during the Fall Conference

KOFWST-KIM Young Researcher Award This award is jointly presented by the Korean Institute of Metals and Materials (KIM) and the Korean Federation of Women's Science & Technology Associations (KOFWST). It is awarded to female members who have published excellent papers in the journals of the Korean Institute of Metals and Materials, Metals and Materials International, or Electronic Materials Letters.

Prize: 500,000 KRW
Special Achievement Award The award is granted to individuals recognized for their exceptional contributions to the advancement of the society.

Award Description
SeAH Haiam
Fellowship Award		 This award is conferred by the HyunSong Education and Culture Foundation, established in honor of the late Honorary Chairman Lee Jong-deok (1915–2000), founder of Busan Steel Pipe Co. (the predecessor of SeAH Group). The award recognizes individuals or organizations who have contributed to the field of metallurgy and materials, including achievements in writing, publishing papers, and other academic activities. The goal of the award is to promote industrial development by recognizing and supporting these contributions. The award is recommended by the Korean Institute of Metals and Materials and presented in the name of the Chairman of the SeAH Haeam Academic Foundation.

Prize: 10,000,000 KRW
Dongkuk Songwon Academic Achievement Award This award is named after the late Honorary Chairman Songwon Jang Sang-tae, the second chairman of Dongguk Steel, to honor his legacy. It is awarded to individuals who have made outstanding research contributions in the field of metallurgy and materials science across all areas and have contributed significantly to academic development.

Prize: 10,000,000 KRW
Songcheon Academic Achievement Award This award is conferred by the Shinyang Metals Industry founded by the late Mr. Songcheon Ha Jang-hong, to individuals under the age of 50 who have made outstanding research contributions in the fields of aluminum and non-ferrous metals. Priority is given to achievements in aluminum research.
