The driving demand for weight reduction, energy saving, pollution control and health care, particularly in relation to transports, portable microelectronics and telecommunications, has stimulated significant increase in production and consumption of magnesium alloys all over the world. In addition to the markets of magnesium consumption and application in Europe and North America, Asia has quickly become a world leading magnesium producers and consumers for automotive, electronic components and so on. The researchers and scientists in Asia, especially in China, Japan, Korea, have responded to this growing industrial activities in magnesium alloys and their applications and established a symposium entitled ¡°Asian Symposium on Magnesium alloys (ASMA)¡±, which was to take place in every two years and held in turn in these three countries. Up to now, three of this symposium has taken place in Jeju, Korea during October 11-14, 2005, in Fukuoka, Japan during October 1-3, 2007, and in Shenyang, China during September 21-23, 2009. It is our great pleasure to invite participants and delegates to the 4th Asian Symposium on Magnesium Alloys (ASMA-IV) that will be held at Paradise Hotel, Busan, Korea in October 2011.

Scope of Symposium
The 4th symposium that continues the highly successful previous Asian Symposia on Magnesium Alloys will provide a forum for exchange and discussion of new ideas and the latest achievements in magnesium alloys and their applications. The topics of this symposium will include, but not limited to, the following aspects related to magnesium alloys:
• Primary production
• Refining and recycling
• Alloy development
• Microstructural evolution
• Solidification and cast alloys
• Texture and wrought alloys
• Welding and joining
• Mechanical and physical properties
• Corrosion and surface treatment
• Industrial applications
• Modeling and simulation
• New functionality and advanced processes
